Could Artificial Intelligence(AI) lead to the end of humanity?
If we talked about Artificial Intelligence being a reality a few years back, people would have definitely laughed on us. But today it is one of the trendiest topics. From health care to self-driving cars, what we could only imagine has now become a reality thanks to AI.
The increased interest in AI in all fields has led to major breakthroughs. The field in itself has major potential that could change the world as we know it. But in which direction is this change inclined towards?
Accuracy, Analysis and Utilization
We cannot ignore the benefits of AI which include incredible accuracy, deeper analysis of data and perfect utilization of the data. It is pretty much being incorporated in every sector like healthcare, marketing or manufacturing. By inventing such a revolutionary technology, we may even be able to eradicate wars, poverty and even diseases.
Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, Bill Gates, and many other big names in science and technology have expressed concern about the risks AI poses. Even though today AI machines are designed to perform only single tasks like a machine that can detect a tax fraud cannot detect healthcare problem. But it might not take long when all of these functions are merged into one.
Possibility of error
No matter how well or intelligently the AI is developed. Even a small error may lead to drastic consequences in this field. A single error while in a car, during a stock exchange or during a missile launch, could cause multifarious damage.
Reduction in jobs
When a machine starts thinking like a man, it might lead to a reduction in the jobs. Although humans are quite good at creating new jobs the drastic change would result in a loss of balance.
Who can guarantee that in a population that is growing exponentially one won’t develop an AI that would harm humanity. Cyber attacks have become common these days. So, with development in AI there might be no safety in proper utilization of the tech.
AI can take over humans
Although it sounds superficial. But from all the movies we have watched and the books we have read, we can’t just take this option out. Scientists predict that it might not be possible for a machine to develop emotions but intelligence is definitely something that it can beat us in. Humans have been ruling earth all these years only because we are smart. So, if we have someone or something to challenge us in that area it might be challenging all of the humanity itself.
AI as of now is a big boon to humans that could solve some really huge issues like security, healthcare etc. Also, considering the extent of the field it might be difficult to predict it’s future. However, AI and machine learning together can create opportunities beyond the expectations of humans.
