Blackberry fanboys dream: New Blackberry, Physical keyboard and Android with the security of BB. What more could you ask?
Blackberry launched the “Mercury” with the name KEYone
KEYone is the device Blackberry is counting on after coming back into the market with TCL as their manufacturing partner.
KEYone is the attempt of the previous smartphone giants to become relevant in the fast evolving world. Blackberry have been struggling in the recent market and almost has 0 percent market share in the phone market. Blackberry loyalist have always been with Blackberry through thin and thick but to become the giants they were. But can KEYone make people fall in love with the BB’s again?
The new device comes from TCL bearing the Blackberry branding with their Software security. The design is, classic BB keyboard coupled with a 4.5″ IPS LCD display with a RES of 1620×1080 with a pixel density of 433 PPI. The keyboard is beautifully coupled IPS display with Android 7.1. The keyboard keys have the ability to be assigned with unique shortcuts, scrolling gesture supports much as the PRIV. Spacebar on the keyboard houses the fingerprint sensor.
Blackberry KEYone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. The device is run by 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage which is indeed expandable.
This time we have the most amount of battery on a BlackBerry there has ever been with a 3,505 mAh battery which is charged by a 3.0 Quick Charge support. The device is expected to give off around a day’s worth of juice.
Almost everytime the camera is the most neglected part of a BB device but on the KEYone that case opposite. The device has a 12 MP Sony IMX 378 sensor for the primary camera, and a 8 MP front camera. The primary (rear) camera has the same sensor at that one of the Google Pixel. As a result, it is expected to be right up there with all other flagships.
The device will have Android 7.1 out of the box, with a promise of regular security updates in the future and additional features like the Blackberry Hub.
The Blackberry KEYone will be available from early-April and at a price of $549 starting, and soon will be available across the globe.
Being a Blackberry fanatic, I really hope, finally they can make their lost ground back and KEYone could be the device we all hope for it to be.
