Camera Pioneers enters TV industry in India

Competition is all heated
up in Indian Smart TV market. Close on the heels of Micromax’s Canvas Smart LED TVs and Chinese player LeEco’s 4K Android Super TV series being
introduced in India, now comes a range of Smart LED TVs launched by the
American imaging Giant Kodak for the Indian market.

At a press conference held
in New Delhi today, Kodak, which is known more for its cameras than its other
imaging products, launched five TV models, including three Smart and two Regular
TVs. The Smart TVs, manufactured by Kodak’s licensed partner Super Plastronics,
come in 32-inch, 40-inch, and 53-inch screen sizes, with both the 40 FHDXSMART
and 50FHDXSMART featuring a 300 Nits Samsung panel, while the 32 HDXSMART has a
250 Nits Samsung panel. The LED panels come with wide viewing angles and
features such as progressive scan, yPbPr color space, and a response time of
less than 8 milliseconds.

All the three models are
powered by an ARM Cortex A7 processor, supported by 512MB RAM and 4GB of
internal storage, and run Android 4.4 KitKat. The Smart TVs offer internet
connectivity and Wi-Fi capability, along with features such as USB to USB copy,
4GB flash storage, Air Mouse, and Wi-Fi, as well as support for Miracast, HDMI,
USB, and VGA ports.

Kodak has not yet revealed the prices of its
new TV range, but has clued that they would be priced between Rs 13,500 and Rs
40,000. Kodak’s TVs will go on sale from August 15 on all leading online
ecommerce platforms, starting with Shop Clues, Flipkart, and Amazon.
