Huawei unveil Mate 10 range: Following the trend with the Mate 10
Huawei today launched the long-awaited Mate 10 and the Mate 10 Pro. These 2 new devices will take the space for flagship devices for Huawei. The Mate 10 series is all about the trend and nothing you haven’t seen till this day. Dual-camera setup at the back, thin Bezel on the front and the death of 3.5mm jack. The 2 smartphones also follow the newest development trend in the valley, with a strong focus on active learning AI.
Mate 10 Pro, not a lot of Pro
Both the devices are pretty similar to each other and pro is not really a PRO to the normal Mate 10. The major difference between the two is the screen, with the Mate 10 featuring a 5.9-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 while the Mate 10 Pro having a larger display of 6.0-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080. Both devices have symetrical Bezels which indeed quite thin on both the devices. Although, Mate 10 Pro feels more compact due to the narrow 18:9 aspect ratio.
Differences between the two devices
The Mate 10 has a more proportional screen making it easy for watching videos. The display resolution is also higher on the Mate 10 which gives a crisper and sharper viewing experience. The Mate 10 has a fingerprint sensor on the front on the bottom of the screen. The Mate 10 Pro because of the Bezel-less display houses the fingerprint sensor at the back lower to the twin camera lens setup.
The thickness on the Mate 10 is a bit bigger with 8.2mm while the Mate 10 Pro is an impressive 7.9mm thick.
Mate 10 Pro is IP67 waterproof and dustproof also features an IR blaster
Only the Mate 10 Pro of the two smartphones features IP67 certification with an IR blaster, although the Pro misses out on a 3.5mm audio jack and expandable storage both of which are present on the Mate 10. Not keeping points but, Mate 10 2 – 10 Pro 0.
Powerhouse is the same on both devices
Both the smartphones feature a Kirin 970 CPU, 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage. Both devices are powered by a 4,000mAh battery. On the camera front, both devices have a dual-camera setup with f/1.6 lenses developed with Leica. The camera is a 20-megapixel colour lens and a 12-megapixel monochrome lens.
The Mate 10 Pro is also available in another storage variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Both the devices have Type-C connectivity and support desktop docking similar to Samsung’s DeX. Where you just need to plug in your Mate 10 and you will have the option to change your screen into a desktop powered by your smartphone.
Major focus on machine learning with the newest Kirin CPU
Huawei claims that with the machine learning they will be able to reduce the phone’s performance decline with time. They also believe they will be able to outperform Apple at on-device learning.
It is very clear all companies are now focusing on developing the smartest AI to make your smartphone a much bigger part of us than it already is.
Right now Huawei has only announced the European pricing for the Mate 10 range. With Mate 10 starting at $824, Mate 10 Pro for $942 and the most unique and special device of the lot, the Porsche Design Mate 10 Pro for a price of $1645. Right now we have no knowledge about where or when will the device be available in other parts of the world.
