Jio to launch a ₹500 4G VoLTE phone on July 21st?
There are rumors since the launch of Jio telecom network that a cheap affordable 4G VoLte feature phone would be released. It is now being said that Reliance owned Jio will launch a ₹500 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone in its AGM to be held on July 21st. A Research note by HSBC analyst says company’s latest offering can be a feature phone with VoLTE capabilities. Reliance’s feature phone can be priced for as low as ₹500($8). This will be done in an effort to attract 2G customers from other networks. Also the cheap plans by the company will help them accomplish this.
Reliance Jio feature phone?
According to Economic Times the device will be subsidized just like the infamous Ringing Bells Freedom 251. This will be done to achieve the price point of ₹500($8). The company is believed to have placed orders with Chinese Vendors like Zhejiang Techain Electronics Technology Co., Shenzhen CHINO-E Communication Co, Crave and Megaphone for more than 18 Million phones.
The Phone is expected to be launched on 21st July and will go on sale in August. It will launch under the LYF brand which is also owned by Reliance Digital, Jio’s parent company.
Jio sweet deal for its feature phone owners?
Reliance along with its 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone, is expected to launch a cheap ₹80-90 plan for its users. However, it is unclear whether this plan will be available for its feature phone users only or for anyone aboard the Jio train. Recently, the company launched a new offer that provides customers with 224GB of 4G data, but you need to buy a new JioFi device for that.
In April, in its regulatory filing, Reliance unveiled a massive number of 11.25 Million users registered on the companies network. It is planning to attract 2G customers and upgrade them to 4G for negligible cost. This would make Jio edge ahead to its competitors. Telecom companies have been struggling to keep up since the launch of the service in September last year.
Reliance Jio broadband service
Company’s broadband service is already under testing by the name of Jio-Fiber. It as also expected for a global launch in the AGM. A flyer for the Jio broadband service says users will get 100GB data and 100Mbps speed with connection, and the service will be free for the first three months. However there is a catch, user will have to deposit ₹4,500 as a refundable security deposit.
