Jio Phone announced with unlimited data and more for Free
Jio Phone was finally announced yesterday evening by Reliance AGM-Mukesh Ambani, who unveiled the long awaited device from Jio. The Jio Phone is being launched for free. Users will have to shell out a refundable deposit of ₹1,500 upfront. Jio Phone is the company’s gateway to tap approx 50 crore feature phone users in the country.
Although the company was launched last year in September, they have a high success rate. Their market was limited to 4G enabled devices with VoLTE capabilities required for calling. These features are only offered in mid range smartphones or up which can’t be afforded by half the country’s population. The company aims to change that with the Jio Phone, which comes with 4G VoLTE support. Besides that, all the Jio’s apps will be pre-installed on the device.
Jio Phone release date
The phone will be available for testing from August 15 and pre booking from 24th of the same month. Users who pre-book will be able to buy the phone from September, on a first come first serve basis. It will come with a couple of different plans.
Users can either pay ₹153 per month for unlimited calls, sms and unlimited data with FUP of 500 MB per day or ₹309 per month for same features and a screen mirroring capabilities with support for even the CRT tv’s with cables and setup. After three years, you can return the phone, and get a full refund on the deposit. Also there is ₹24 and ₹54 bidaily and weekly packs.
Jio Phone features and specifications
The Jio Phone was announced demonstrating few features including Voice support and pre-installed apps for Facebook and PM Modi’s Mann ki Baat app. The company confirmed the phone will have a 2.4-inch display, panic button, expandable storage and FM radio, among other features. Key specifications leaked before the launch include dual SIM functionality, 2-megapixel rear camera, VGA front camera, FM radio, and Bluetooth connectivity. The Jio Phone has also been tipped to come with a 4GB of internal storage, and 512MB of RAM.
Data is the oxygen of digital life, and no Indian should suffer because of unaffordability. Sadly the vast majority of mobile users are starved of data. This unfairness must end, and Jio is committing to ending it today.
-Muskesh Ambani, CEO Reliance, Parent Company of Jio.
He also mentioned the plans to expand their VoLTE network in 90% areas of the country, where even 2G is rare. This will attract a lot of customers to Jio, if not for VoLTE then atleast because its affordable.
