MiUi 10 announced with revamped recents menu and more
MiUi 9 was announced back in July 2017. So everyone would be expecting a MiUi 10 to be launched soon right? At an event in China, Xiaomi recently announced the new MiUi. It will be the successor of MIUI 9. The new Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and the Mi 8 SE will be the first phones to run the new version.
However, not many details are known about the MiUi 10. An unreleased build of the MiUi 9 for the Mi Mix 2 was seen. That is actually the first build of he MiUi10. MIUI 9’s China and Global ROMs have significant differences in functionality. So it is unclear whether the announced details are applicable for the MiUi10 China ROMs or the Global ROMs.
The other main aspect of the MiUi 10 is AI. According, to the company, AI features include AI Portrait and AI Preload. The AI Portrait feature enables smartphones with a single camera to take photos with Bokeh effect. This is much like how the Pixel 2 does it. Smartphones with MiUi10 will be able to use algorithms to identify the foreground and blur the background just like the Pixel 2. AI Preload is also a feature said to help reduce load times for apps. According to Xiaomi, MiUi10 will already pre-load the app based on the user’s usage patterns and daily routine. This will help save the time of loading the app by the user.
MIUI 10 also features a UI redesign. The new UI is optimized for smartphones with thin bezels. According to the company, the MiUi 10 has a brand new Recents app menu. The old Recent app menu in MIUI 9 was a sideways scrolling card switcher just like the iOS 10. However, the new MIUI 10 has a 2×2 app list to enable more apps to be seen at once. This approach was seen by HTC in the HTC M7 days. The Recent menu supports full-screen gestures just like the iPhone X.
The company has stated that Mi Ecosystem devices will be directly controlled by MIUI 10. This will eliminate the use of a secondary app for the device. MIUI 10 also has a new car mode that performs just like Android auto. There will be news voice commands in-built for answering calls and much more.
