New OnePlus 5T/5 Beta adds iPhone X style navigation feature and more
Chinese smartphone manufacturer, OnePlus just rolled out a new beta software update for their flagship devices. The Oxygen OS open beta 3 update for the OnePlus 5T and Open beta 5 for the OnePlus 5 smartphone. Both of these updates bring the iPhone X styled navigation features and also removing the clipboard feature among more. The company decided to remove the clipboard feature after French security researcher called Elliot Alderson alleged that the file in the Clipboard App badwords.txt was being sent back to Chinese servers without user consent.
A OnePlus spokesperson denied all the reports. H also said. “There’s been a false claim that the Clipboard app has been sending user data to a server. The code is entirely inactive in the open beta for OxygenOS, our global operating system. No user data is being sent to any server without consent in OxygenOS… Local data in this folder is skipped over and not sent to any server.”
Now, the latest OnePlus open beta build for it’s latest smartphones removes this feature at all. It is rumoured, that it was done in order to save the company from any class action lawsuit. According to the forum post by OnePlus, the OxygenOS beta 3 for OnePlus 5T’s changelog includes general bug fixes and improvements, removes clipboard function, and includes changes to the phone app.
New features for the OnePlus 5T/5
The phone app now features a pick-up gesture switcher. This means that the user can select the direction of swiping (up or down) while trying to pick up the phone call. In addition to that, for the OnePlus 5T, the new beta also brings more swiping gestures. This now adds gestures for navigation, like the ones featured on the iPhone X. Users can enable these new navigation gestures from settings and under the Nav bar settings.
It also includes a new CPU security patch for CVE-2017-13218 as well. The Oxygen OS beta 3 update for the OnePlus 5T also enables SMS categorisation. However, this function is available for India only. It helps the SMS messages to be sorted into different categories automatically.
OxygenOS Open Beta 5 for OnePlus 5 includes the same features as the OnePlus 5T. However, the most important feature is missing. The iPhone X style navigation is absent in OnePlus 5. This is due to the device already have a physical home button. The build includes the same CPU security patch, bug fixes and changes to the phone app for pick-up gesture.
