OnePlus finally confirms no Nougat update for the OnePlus 2

OnePlus 2

After much speculation by the owners of the OnePlus 2, The OnePlus has confirmed to Android Authoriy that there won’t be a update to Android Nougat for the OnePlus 2. This is outright against the company’s promise to provide updates 24 months after launch.

The company also said that customer service have been telling this to the customers for a while. They also said to have confirmed the Nougat update for the OnePlus 3, and 3T. So it wasn’t new that the OnePlus 2 isn’t receiving the Nougat update.

That said, a OnePlus moderator writing about the Nougat update in the forum as recently as the end of May seemed to think it was still being worked on, leaving the communication work up to another forum member.

When we built the OnePlus 2 we didn’t have the software infrastructure team in place we do now.

While some folks may well have been informed of this in the past weeks, there’s clearly been a lack of communication here. Putting up a official statement about this in the OnePlus forums or letting Carl or Pete tweet this would have been easy as anything. Looks like the lack of interest by the OnePlus in keeping it’s customers informed caused this.

Android Authority reports, When we asked why the OnePlus 2 wouldn’t get the update, OnePlus told us it was because “when we built the OnePlus 2 we didn’t have the software infrastructure team in place we do now,” directly blaming the convergence of Hydrogen and Oxygen OS teams for this problem.

Considering purpose of merging the teams was to “speed up updates,” resulting lack of updates for a device which the company now quotes as “dated” will not please their customers. This is not the first instance of companies not delivering their promises. Check out this post on : OEMs need to stop promising updates they can’t deliver.

With OnePlus 5 launch nearing, dissatisfying customers s something OnePlus dosen’t want.
