Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus arriving in India on February 14

Xiaomi, the top Chinese smartphone firm. Also referred as China’s Apple. Unveiled the new sets of their sub-flagships from the sub-brand Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 plus back in November. Now the Chinese firm is all set to launch the new smartphones in India. The launch is slated to be on February 14.

The new smartphones are replacing the Redmi Note as the flagship of the brand. Redmi Note 5 is the new Redmi 5 Plus.

Specifications

Xiaomi Redmi 5 sport a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450 chipset paired with 2GB/3GB RAM options and 16GB/32GB storage options.  The Redmi 5 houses a huge 3300mAh battery.

Meanwhile, the Redmi 5 Plus features a 5.99-inch full-HD+ display. Under the hood, the smartphone has a Snapdragon 625 SoC paired with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage respectively. in terms of battery, the smartphone equips a bigger 4000 mAh battery.

On the software front, the smartphones run the company proprietary MIUI 9 custom ROM based on Android 7.1 Nougat and reports of even upgrading to Android 8.0 oreo soon. Both the smartphone may come with fast charging support.

On the optics front, Xiaomi Redmi 5 and 5 Plus have similar camera sensors sporting 12-megapixel primary camera along with an LED flash. Up front, there’s a 5-megapixel selfie camera with a soft-light selfie flash.

Price and Availablity

The launch is scheduled to be on February 14th. The smartphone might go on sale a few days after the launch. As per the tradition, the smartphones will be sold on Flash sales. Maybe available in 2 or more color options.

In terms of price, The phones when launched in China came with a price tag of RM 679 (roughly Rs 11200) and RM 749 (around Rs 12,400) respectively. In India, the phones might arrive with similar price.

There are also a few reports stating in India Redmi 5 Plus will be launched as Redmi Note 5.
